In the United States, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in general provides up to 3 months of maternity leave at most companies with employers with more than 15 people and having worked for at minimum of 12 months at a company. The minimum required leave for vaginal birth is 6 weeks, and cesarean birth is 8 weeks. I am also aware that it is quite different for others countries as well (Hooray for Germany with 12 months of paid paternity leave!). However, get informed on the process as soon as possible and also file with your employers Human Resources department at minimum 2 to 3 months prior to going on maternity leave.
